FAST WIRE COMPUTER-CONTROLLED CONTOUR
CUTTER
FOR RIGID & FLEXIBLE FOAMS
MACHINE DESCRIPTION
The Fast Wire Profiler consists of a fixed cutting table with horizontal
linear bearings mounted along the two long sides. An aluminum gantry,
housing the endless loop abrasive cutting wire, moves horizontally along
the cutting table. Within the gantry another system of linear bearings
is used to control the vertical movement of the cutting wire.
- High-speed abrasive wire cuts practically all types of rigid and
flexible foam
- Exceptionally high foam utilization
- Clambing of the block not required
- Hot wire option for EPS cutting
- Dust extraction and isolation
- Large range of machine sizes to accommodate all block sizes
- Powerful Profiler softwire for ease of use
- Remote handset for easy manual control
The Saw Motor, a direct drive electric motor is mounted with the gantry
assembly on the far side of the machine, from the operator's point of
view. The motor is controlled by an "inventor style" speed
controller to operate at 85 Hz or 4700 rpm. The cutting wire rides on
five sheels sithin the gantry, one wheel being directly driven by the
saw motor.
Vertical movement of the cutting wire and the horizontal movement of
the gantry are controlled by stepper motors, mounted beneath the cutting
table as part of the gantry carriage.
Cable ducts carry all control and power wires from the machine to the
control console. This console houses the electrical and electronic components
for controlling and driving the stepper motors, running the saw motor
and the various control panel and machine switches and buttons. The
electronics module responsible for controlling the motion of the machine
if referred to in this manual as the Indexer. In the new models the
Indexer connects to the machine via PLC, Programmable Logic Controller.

COMPUTER CONTROL CABINET
The control cabinet contains the computer and the full electronic control
system. This is responsible for all computer-controlled motion when
using the handset of cutting under computer control. The electronics
module in this cabinet that actually controls the motion of the machine
is referred to as the Indexer. The Indexer connects to a PLC which in
turn connects to all inputs and outputs on the machine, such as limit
switches, etc. This cabinet also contains the Fast Wire Saw Motor control
in the Fast Wire/Compuset machine.
A smaller cabinet is also used when the Fast Wire machine is fitted
with the hot wire option for cutting of EPS foam. This second cabinet
houses the hot wire power system, earth-leakage safety systems, and
another PLC responsible for the wire setting and unloading.
The main power switch is located on the side of the right-hand end
of the console. This switch also switches the power to the computer.

WINTECH PROFILER SOFTWARE
The powerful Wintech Profiler software drives the machine, translating
designs for foam shapes into profile signal commands for the indexer
card. The computer that runs the software resides in a positively pressured
dust cover on top of the console and connects to the indexer inside
by a serial cable.

REMOTE HANDSET
An 11-button manual control handset is connected to the console by
an 8-meter cable. The handset enable the operator to manually move the
wire positions, start, stop, pause, and cancel a job. The handset can
also be used to set the cutting speed and is used to provide signals
back to the Profiler software for digitizing the wire position for block
height, enabling extremely accurate cutting.

CUTTING WIRES TO SUIT A RANGE OF
MATERIALS
To complement the versatility of the Fast Wire machine, a variety
of cutting wires are available to suit the multitude of materials
and applications possible. Cutting wires, each with 13 cores for
strength, are available in a standard wrap, not unlike a guitar
string, a more aggressive Spiral-wrap with a spiral
ridge profile, and an even more aggressive X wrap
with two crossing spiral ridges for very dense materials. Replacement
wires can be added to the original order. |
DIGITIZER TABLET, 36" x 48"
Allows user to trace pre-drawn shapes directly into the profiler; thus,
shapes can be cut very quickly. Once the shape has been entered into
the computer via the digitizer, then it can easily be changed in size.
The digitizer is only an advantage if the user has pre-drawn-out shapes.
