"American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" has officially
extended the Section 179 Deduction increases
through December 31, 2010

The big advantage to leasing or financing equipment and then taking the
Section 179 Deduction is that you can deduct the full amount of the equipment, without paying the full amount this year. The amount you save in taxes can actually exceed the payments, making this a very bottom-line friendly deduction

in many cases, the deduction will actually be profit.

$134,000 Write-Off This Year —
Section 179 Federal Income Tax Deduction: For taxable years beginning 2010, the Section 179 expense limit is reduced to $134,000, and the maximum deductible expense must be reduced dollar for dollar for investments of more than $530,000 in qualifying property. For companies purchasing (or leasing - with a $1.00 buy-out lease) up to $530,000 of equipment in 2010, this deduction is available in full.

50% Bonus Depreciation (expires December 2010)
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 also allows for a special 50% bonus depreciation for equipment placed in service for use in your trade or business for the production of income before January 1, 2011. This deduction allows an additional 50% first-year depreciation on the adjusted basis of qualified new equipment.
Standard Depreciation
Additionally, companies can take their standard depreciation deductions on the adjusted basis of qualified equipment. Machine tools and fabricating equipment are typically depreciated over 7 years
